| | Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Great Strides Walk | As a Waco, TX committee member for the Great Strides Walk benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, I would like to take this time to express to Gracie and Maggie McWiggles how much I appreciate their participation in the Waco Great Strides Walk. | | On Saturday, May 22, 2004, there was a Great Strides Walk to help raise money to find a cure for cystic fibrosis. The walk was held at the Waco Dam, Hike and Bike Trail. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disease affecting approximately 30,000 children and adults in the United States. For more information on CF or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation please log on to www.cff.org.
I was thumbing through the yellow pages prior to the walk, looking for clowns, hoping I could get someone to "volunteer" their time for this cause. My hope was that "happy" people would make walking almost 3 miles "fun". Boy, did I ever get what I was looking for. As soon as I asked my question, my answer was, "yes, we'd love to." Gracie and Maggie McWiggle joined my team, Custer's Crowd, and about 100 other walkers with the hope that one day a cure can be found. Gracie and Maggie were tons of fun. They lifted the spirit of the walkers and were an encouragement to us all. Their fun loving spirits filled the air. They provided golf cart rides for those who weren't able to complete the walk and offered assistance all along the way for any others needing a ride.
I have to say, that as an adult, I enjoyed them as much as the children. I thank them from the bottom of my heart and know that great things will continue to come their way. Thanks Gracie and Maggie for sharing your joy with not only me and my special event, but for spreading joy to all the others that cross your path.
May God Bless You, Kathy Custer |
